Hemember, when your labiate get down to four Letters To The 1 Editor Dear Editor: Attention Carl S. Geary: Sir, we do argue but have you seen many ball games in which there were no arguments? If so, the umpires were paid well and the players were not too inter ested in the outcome of the game. Our umpires are unpaid, conse quently, decisions are made which the players (and fans) can not agree with. It is only human na ture for us to argue. We’re buddies after the game, regardless of how fierce we may appear during it. Whatever led you to make the statement that we are not good sports was probably our com petitive spirit. Webster will en lighten you concerning “sports manship” and ‘‘competition.” Your wires are crossed, Sir. No players have been spiked or run down. I am a newcomer to Black Mountain, not a summer tourist, and find the people to be most hospitable, friendly and definitely good sports. If they weren’t, com petition among the various organi zations and churches would not be so keen. This, I believe, is admirable for a town the size of Black Moun tain. Therefore, please don’t try to destroy what makes it the town it is. You can not condemn the en tire population of a town for the dastardly act of one individual!! If so, no town would be “clean.” Come see our games, or stay away—but first, 1 ask again, re fer to Webster then note our real sporting attitude, not our arguments. Gilbert E.
